Grimbergen is one of the oldest Belgian Abbey Beers, whose roots date back to the Middle Ages.
The history of this beer is inextricably linked to that of its Abbey, which was founded by Norbertine monks in 1128 and was destroyed by fire in 1142, later in 1566 and again in 1798.
After each destructive wave, it was rebuilt. For this reason the monks chose as their symbol the phoenix, which embodies perpetual rebirth and adopted a motto in honor of this legendary animal: Ardet nec consumitur, Burn but not consumed.
In 2019 Grimbergen distinguished itself at the World Beer Awards by winning 5 awards. The most important was won by Grimbergen Blanche, who won gold as the World’s Best Belgian Style Witbier.
